The different types of ores separation
Three types of material separation are used in recycling processes, soil decontamination and industrial site clean-up.
- Chemical separation: chemical treatment separates an element from the ore. This is called leaching.
- Gravimetric separation: minerals are separated by gravity, using their different densities.
- Granulometric separation: also known as screening, this involves sorting minerals by size.
Mineral separation equipment

- The hydrocyclone is used for particle size classification.
- The Lavodune® hydraulic classifier hydraulic classifier enables particle size separation on sandy fractions and/or gravimetric separation.
- The spiral is used for gravimetric separation.
