THE PROJECT

For this project, NEYRTEC MINERAL brought all its expertise to bear on the valorization of sand processing for public works companies.

Our customer’s challenge was to find a solution to reduce operating costs. To achieve this, our customer wanted to change equipment to increase production of washed sand to 80t/hr. This increase in throughput would also reduce trucking costs. Another of our customer’s requirements was a 2-mm safety cut.

NEYRTEC MINERAL SOLUTION

To solve this problem, it was first necessary to hydraulically transfer dry sand from a hopper located 150 meters away to the sand washing/screening plant.

NEYRTEC MINERAL then designed a Sandyflux 3.6 m² sand treatment unit and a 10 m² dewatering screen.

PERFORMANCES

To begin with, we installed a 10m² dewatering screen. This is the first washing of materials to extract moisture from fine materials and make them suitable for transport. To effectively dewater the material, the slurry is fed onto a downward-sloping screening surface at the feed end of the dewatering screen to ensure rapid drainage.

In a second phase, NEYRTEC MINERAL installed a 3.6 m2 Sandyflux sand treatment for 50-micron ignition.

RECYCLING SAND AND AGGREGATES IN QUARRIES

At a time when protecting the environment is a key concern, recycling quarried materials such as sand and aggregates helps optimize their use while reducing waste. This eco-responsible practice takes many forms, from waste recycling to the creation of new value-added products.

In order to obtain sand and aggregates that comply with standards, a number of techniques are used to upgrade these materials in different dimensions:

  • Processing and separation: sand and aggregates are first processed and separated using a variety of equipment, including screens, crushers and washers. This process eliminates the fine part (sands) and coarse fractions (aggregates), while guaranteeing optimized quality of the recovered materials.
  • Recycling: some quarry waste can be used directly as a raw material in certain industrial sectors. For example, crushed old concrete can be integrated into the production of new concrete, or aggregates from road construction can be recycled by the road sector.
  • Production of alternative materials: sand and aggregates can also be transformed into new value-added materials, such as composites or bio-sourced products. These innovative applications open up new prospects for the recovery of quarry waste.

In France, the annual consumption of aggregates is 350 million tonnes, or 6 tonnes per inhabitant per year, making it one of the most widely exploited resources. Here are a few concrete examples: recycled aggregates in road infrastructure, concrete made from recycled aggregates, development of innovative composite materials…
