THE PROJECT
This project involves the manufacturing of a complete phosphate processing plant at the Matam mine in Senegal. Our customer’s objective is to produce a quality phosphate for the chemical and fertilizer industries. The product will then be on the market for sale to international customers. Phosphate is one of Senegal’s most important mining resources. The project began with an individual request for equipment supplies, followed by the complete engineering of the plant.
NEYRTEC MINERAL SOLUTION
The partnership between the customer and NEYRTEC MINERAL on pilot tests led to the process engineering (PFD=Process Flow Diagram PID=Process Instrumentation Diagram) and complete turnkey studies (EPC Etude Procurement Construction) NEYRTEC MINERAL commissioned the complete installation of this plant.
This phosphate enrichment plant includes: a ROLOFLUX (30×90), a screen, a set of primary and secondary hydrocyclone batteries, a LAVODUNE hydraulic classifier, attrition cells,hydrocyclone batteries for thickening prior to filtration, and a water treatment set comprising a decanter and a flocculation station.
PERFORMANCES
To date, this phosphate enrichment unit processes 250 t/h of raw material for a final output of between 100 and 120 t/h. The phosphate produced is equivalent to obtaining a concentrate with 36.9% P205, i.e. 80.6 BPL, with a high recovery rate (87%) and an overall weight yield of almost 73%.
MORE ABOUT PHOSPHATE
Phosphate ore (rock concentrated in phosphate salts) is a sedimentary rock known as exogenous rock: it is formed by concentration when phosphate ions precipitate in a rock undergoing diagenesis. Biogenic forms, such as bird and bat guanos, have been exploited for centuries. Phosphates are used in agriculture as fertilizers to enrich fruit and vegetables as a source of phosphorus.
Senegal has significant phosphate reserves, mainly concentrated in the Thiès region. This region is known for its large phosphate quarries, which have been in operation for decades. The mining sites offer not only a substantial source of revenue for the country, but also an opportunity for socio-economic development for local communities.
